Wow.
Galliano was this morning fired from the label he created. That takes some doing really....Basically Dior own 91% of his label - Galliano. This morning they decided, enough is enough and got rid. This comes after all the controversy over his racist remarks back in March this year. I'm amazed it has taken them this long to decide to fire him.
Given that Dior fired Galliano as head designer almost immediately after the remarks hit the headlines, I can only imagine the road to firing him from Galliano must have been paved with legal difficulties. But what will become of the 17 year old brand?
It is not going to be easy to find someone to replace a brand with such a tarnished name. It is not like a designer who died just being replaced by a creative director who has worked with the designer. The name Galliano is completely tarnished. It would take a brave designer and a braver PR company to undertake a brand that smashed.
Although there are rumours flying (this is fashion, there are always rumours about something) that companies in China and the Middle East are interested in buying it. Good luck lads, your gonna need it!
- there were reports of Galliano taunted while walking through an airport recently having completed his rehab stint. A journalist (no doubt a tabloid looking for a headline) called out 'Fucking racist' at the designer as he made his way to his flight. Nothing happened though.
