Before the sixth day of prosecution testimony, Judge Charles Burns ordered the release of the chilling phone call made by Julia Hudson after she found her mother’s bullet-riddled body in her home. Burns ruled that there’s no evidence that Balfour’s due-process rights would be harmed, especially considering that the tape already has been played for jurors at his triple-murder trial.
During the phone call, a frantic Julia Hudson tells 911 that her mother is lying lifeless on the floor, unbeknownst to her at the time, her brother was also dead inside.
“She’s on the floor and I see blood coming from her head … I just came home from work and there’s a bullet hole in our front door,” she said. “She’s 57 years old. Please help my mama. Please just send an ambulance.”Balfour is the former husband of Julia, who prosecutors say snapped and killed her mother Darnell Donerson, her brother, Jason Hudson, and her son, 7-year-old Julian King. The bodies of Donerson and her son were found in their Chicago home, King’s lifeless body was discovered days later in his murdered uncle’s van. He had been shot to death.
Jennifer Hudson took the stand last week to try and help put away the man she believes murdered her family. Fighting back tears, the Oscar winner recounted a warning she gave her sister about Balfour. “I told her over and over again to not marry him,” Hudson said, her voice trembling. “We did not like the way he treated her.”
Balfour is charged with first-degree murder, home invasion, aggravated kidnapping, residential burglary and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
